Console Alvéole
Console, unique, private collection, Dinard, 2021.
Each object is traditionally represented by its three dimensions in order to be manufactured more easily and or reproduced. It can be seen on front view, side view or top view. To the frontview I applied a design framework integrating the dimensional constraints given to me by the type of furniture, here a console. This is where the honeycomb structure of the whole appears. This dimension fixes a frame, it allows the furniture to be solid, durable and functional.
The other two dimensions are then left free to the hand for expression. It is difficult to draw a straight line freehand, there is always a tremor or an irregularity in the line. I simply emphasized this weakness to draw a free contour to each of the panels that make up the furniture, this is what gives it this lively, vibrant appearance and its unique character.
The honeycomb structure is taken here as a raw material, like monoliths that we would have sculpted, lightened as much as possible to give them a useful shape. The cells make it possible to obtain very rigid panels with little material, reducing the profile of the cabinet to a minimum. These cavities are also functional, as they are as many housings for storing objects or for sliding the drawers which are integrated into the cabinet.
